So God Made A Preacher
And on the eighth day, God looked down on his beloved people and said, “I need someone to teach them.”
So God made a preacher.
God said, “I need someone willing to study the gospel, meditate on it for a while, then study it again and write a clear and persuasive message that accurately represents who I am and what I’m all about, then be willing to change it at the last minute because I’m leading him in another direction.”
So God made a preacher.
God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up in the night to grieve with a family that has just lost a child, then as they sit ten rows away from him the following Sunday, still have the faith and confidence to assert that I am a good and loving father.”
So God made a preacher.
God said, ‘I need someone who can see beyond what is ordinary, beyond what is text on a page, reaching deeply into the truth of every passage, and then bring a fresh perspective to a well known verse. Someone who can help people see that my word is unchanging yet completely relevant in any place or time. That regardless of their circumstance, their belief, their hopes, their dreams, their will; my word will never fail them.
So God made a preacher.
God said, “I need someone who doesn’t care about what is easy to say, but someone who will speak my truth in such a way that it will compel people to act, to throw off restraint and political correctness, and to run with wild abandon in the direction of my will.
So God made a preacher.
God said, “I need somebody strong enough to boldly present the gospel and stress the importance and essentiality of Jesus, yet gentle enough to do so in love and humility, and without condemnation. It has to be somebody who’ll dig deep in my word and give the truth straight and not cut corners. Somebody to plant seeds, weed out lies from the enemy, feed my hope to the hungry, and inspire others to action. Somebody who’ll lead my family into a deeper, loving relationship with Me, and who’ll laugh, and then cry and then smile the knowing smile of a teacher, as my people live out the life I have created them for.
So God made a preacher.
